GPP

GPP stands for General Physical Preparedness. This concept is taken from sports science and is about developing all-round qualities to prepare you for specific training.

These programs focus on the general qualities required for strength training. In typical GPP, there would be more cardio and plyometrics. These are not required for standard strength training. Feel free to add them if you’re interested.

The programs below are my interpretation of different programming types and how they could work for you. In each of the 4 focuses are a 3 day, 4 day and 5 day program that have the same style.

These programs have been set up so you can complete them in most gyms. If there is an exercise you cannot perform or equipment you do not have access to, think about the intention of the exercise and try to match that.

Technique focus

I put together these sessions intending for the body to feel good. Each session starts with an exercise that primes the proceeding one. There is a significant focus on lengthened positions which is great for hypertrophy and can help prevent injury.

Strength focus

This strength focus pushes heavy compounds that will get you generally strong. A big push press and weighted pull-up are not a focus in any other strength sport. But can be fun pursuits.

Volume focus

Getting jacked helps everyone. This program style focuses on pushing volume through heavy compounds. The high-rep top sets will push you to another level in the last weeks on the block.

Balance focus

This balanced program has some more “power“ focused exercises. These can help anyone competing in sports or who wants a path to training in Olympic weightlifting.
